God continues to move in the lives of our community! Here are some events we do in our neighborhood to share the love of Christ with others in our community.
Block Parties – Spring Carnival, Carnival of Hope, Fall Fest (on Halloween)
We close down four blocks and have fun for the whole family with the purpose of sharing Christ and connecting them with Urban Hope though events like carnival games, bounce houses, food, photos, community resources, and gospel presentations.
Thanksgiving Meal Outreach
While the greatest need is spiritual, we also believe that Jesus cares for the physical needs of people as well. Every Thanksgiving we give out 320 meals to families through outside support. It is our desire this year to continue to provide meals for families who need them while at the same time giving them a “hand-up” and not simply a “hand-out.” It has been our aim to put together a Thanksgiving meal program where families in need are helped and at the same time given the opportunity to preserve their dignity. This year we are again planning to provide reduced cost Thanksgiving meals by asking families to pay $5 for their entire meal. Too often, in our desire to help the poor by giving away things for free we can create an unhealthy dependency and also strip the poor of their dignity. Through this outreach we are also providing jobs for a few people in our local church and community who are currently unemployed. The $5 that is given by families to pay for their meals goes directly to help pay for workers in the meal distribution process.
